: Seapower

A series of seven programmes presented by Admiral of the Fleet, the Lord Hill-Norton, GCB 2: Carrier
' The Second World War taught the Royal Navy that seapower also means air-power.' ..
The fleet aircraft carrier is the most impressive fighting machine the world has ever seen: one carrier can unleash a greater variety of lethal weapons, with greater destructive power, at longer range, than any man-of-war in history.
For 40 years the carrier has dominated naval warfare - and she will be around for another 40 years.
This programme tells the story of the aircraft carrier from the First
World War to Taranto, the Battle of the Atlantic and the great carrier battles of World War II in the Pacific. It explains how the aeroplane went to sea and how the carrier became the capital ship, the backbone of the navy. And it looks ahead to the future of the carrier.

Dallas - the Big Store
It's the day after Reagan's victory and the run-up to Christmas in one of the richest and most conservative towns in America. What do the real citizens of Dallas buy for their loved ones? What fashions are favoured by shoppers who hardly bother to look at the price tag? Neiman-Marcus has the answers. Chairman Stanley Marcus ran the family-owned store for 30 years: he's known as ' the last of the merchant princes.' His staff are taught the religion of selling - how to treat every customer as if they own a Ewing oil field or a cattle ranch. In Dallas, they usually do.

About this project

This site contains the BBC listings information which the BBC printed in Radio Times between 1923 and 2009. You can search the site for BBC programmes, people, dates and Radio Times editions.

We hope it helps you find information about that long forgotten BBC programme, research a particular person or browse your own involvement with the BBC.

Through the listings, you will also be able to use the Genome search function to find thousands of radio and TV programmes that are already available to view or listen to on the BBC website.

There are more than 5 million programme listings in Genome. This is a historical record of the planned output and the BBC services of any given time. It should be viewed in this context and with the understanding that it reflects the attitudes and standards of its time - not those of today.

Welcome to BBC Genome

Genome is a digitised version of the Radio Times from 1923 to 2009 and is made available for internal research purposes only. You will need to obtain the relevant third party permissions for any use, including use in programmes, online etc.

This internal version of Genome, which includes all the magazine covers, images and articles as well as the programme listings from the Radio Times, is different to the version of BBC Genome that is available externally/to the public. It is only available inside the BBC network.

Your use of this version of Genome is covered by the BBC Acceptable Use of Information Systems Policy and these terms.
