Terry Wogan introduces the 21st birthday bonanza of beauty, live from Blackpool, where 26 of the most beautiful girls from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland compete for the title of Miss United Kingdom 1978.
First, from Blackpool's famous Pleasure Beach, Ray Moore introduces all the girls in swimsuits as they watch and enjoy the spills and thrills of this world-famous funfair.
Then, in the more sophisticated surroundings of Tiffany's Ballroom, the 12 semi-finalists parade first in formal gowns and again in swimsuits to be assessed on beauty, personality and figure for a first prize of f7,500 plus automatic entry to the Miss World contest.
Finally the seven finalists are interviewed by Esther Rantzen to help the panel of celebrity judges come to a decision. Music by the BBC NORTHERN RADIO ORCHESTRA conducted by PHIL TATE
