Some recollections by HRH Princess Alice, Countess of Athlone, who was 95 yesterday, and is the only surviving grandchild of Queen Victoria. Introduced by Sir Huw Wheldon
During the making of the Royal Heritage series, Princess Alice gave her first filmed interview. This programme is an extended presentation of some of the things she said on that occasion, when she recalled - at first-hand - the personality and life of her grandmother, Queen Victoria, at Windsor Castle, Osborne and Balmoral, the Jubilees of 1887 and 1897, the Queen's Funeral, and the Germany of Kaiser Wilhelm II.

' If this is not blasphemy, nothing is! ' (JOHN SMYTH ,
Counsel for the Prosecution)
' Must we have all our controversy limited to what would be acceptable conversation on the vicarage lawn? ' (JOHN MORTIMER , QC,
Counsel for the Defence)
Last summer saw the first trial for blasphemy in this country for over half a century. Begun by Mary Whitehouse against the homosexual newspaper Gay News, it ended in a conviction, heavy fines and a suspended prison sentence for the editor. The appeal has just been heard. Was this prosecution an attack on free speech? Or was it a necessary defence of the principle that, even in a permissive society, some things must remain sacred? This dramatised documentary reconstructs this historic trial, and explores the issues it raises. with NORMAN RUTHERFORD
CHRIS SANDERS , PETER MACHIN
Peter France questions the people on both sides including Mary Whitehouse and Denis Lemon , Editor, Gay News, about their actions and reactions during the case.
An advance in the technique of showing the public the essential facts of a criminal trial. (LAW SOCIETY GAZETTE) The tension was inescapably real. Peter Machin enacted with uncanny closeness ... the controlled apprehension of Denis Lemon waiting in the dock.
It worked marvellously, presenting the core of the arguments in austere and riveting style. (THE times)

3: The Shankill Road
The Shankill Road -both a street and an area - was once synonymous with Loyalism, a byword, even in Belfast. From top to bottom the road was solidly unionist and monarchist and no outsiders disturbed the coherence of the community. But bulldozers are levelling the little streets, the people are moving out. Can the spirit of the Shankill survive the death of its home? And what happens to those loyalties when the actual fabric of the road disappears?
