Introduced by Cliff Michelmore
The lira has been having a tough time lately, just like the pound. One consequence is that Italian resorts now offer budget-price holiday alternatives to Spain. We look at Sorrento, Positano and the islands of Capri and Ischia: Kieran Prendiville has been checking out costs and discovering just what each has to offer the British holidaymaker.
The island of Cyprus, whose most popular resorts were occupied by invading troops in 1974, had virtually to start the holiday business from scratch again after that invasion. What is the appeal of this new Cyprus? And can visitors be sure of an enjoyable holiday on a divided and still partly-occupied island? John Carter reports.
Travel experts in the studio add their information to the film reports, and Norma Shepherd occupies the consumer desk.
