With the hit songs of 100 years ago, including Juanita, written by the scandalous Mrs Caroline Norton, the evergreen The moon has raised her lamp above by Benedict, and a plaintive melody by Frederick Clay called I'll sing thee songs of Araby.
All these and many others like them were firm favourites sung very seriously by the family grouped around the piano in the drawing-room.
