EDWARD CHAPMAN
VIRGINIA STRIDE
JAMES KERRY in Wax Fruit by LUDOVIC PETERS
Cast in order of appearance:
Designer, Austin Ruddy
Script editor, Patrick Alexander
Producer, JORDAN LAWRENCE
Directed by IAN MACNAUGHTON
There is strict security in one section of Champion Mills-for the good reason that the Champions are experimenting with a new device which they intend to keep to themselves. Quite unexpectedly, Stephen receives a call from an old friend, Saced Khan. Now it is quite possible that Saeed Khan is not all he says he is and Joe is by nature suspicious. Stephen is reluctant to distrust his friend while Liz has to form her own opinion; but Saeed Khan has a way with him-especially where women are concerned.
Incidentally, he provides a splendid role for Zia Mohyeddin.

: A SPLENDID PLACE TO LIVE

1768: Boom Town
1868: Ghost Town
1968: New Town
A documentary by PHILIP DONNELLAN
This film takes us into the problems and frustrations of beginning a new town-and into the lives of the population, new and old.
The Hirsts and their two children move from an estate in Birmingham to Dawley, Shropshire. They are in at the start of a new scene in the tangled drama of Dawley. In 1709 a Quaker named Darby discovered how to smelt iron with coke: the Revolution that started in Shropshire swamped the world. But when the iron and coal there were exhausted the people moved on into Birmingham and the Black Country. Now the Planners are inviting them to go back.
But will they want to go? And how will the Planners cope with this new Revolution?

: AT A TIME LIKE THIS

This week:
A LIFE OF HER OWN
No.2:
It's marvellous to be mobile
For twenty-five years Pamela La Fane , crippled with rheumatoid arthritis, has lived in a geriatric hospital. For the 3,000 young chronic sick like her there are few alternatives. For years she has dreamed of being able to live a more independent life, free from the routine and discipline of hospital. During the last year she has paid three visits to Mary Marlborough Lodge, a Rehabilitation Centre at Oxford, where she hopes she may be helped to overcome the obstacles that stand in the way of getting ' a flat of her own.'

About this project

This site contains the BBC listings information which the BBC printed in Radio Times between 1923 and 2009. You can search the site for BBC programmes, people, dates and Radio Times editions.

We hope it helps you find information about that long forgotten BBC programme, research a particular person or browse your own involvement with the BBC.

Through the listings, you will also be able to use the Genome search function to find thousands of radio and TV programmes that are already available to view or listen to on the BBC website.

There are more than 5 million programme listings in Genome. This is a historical record of the planned output and the BBC services of any given time. It should be viewed in this context and with the understanding that it reflects the attitudes and standards of its time - not those of today.

Welcome to BBC Genome

Genome is a digitised version of the Radio Times from 1923 to 2009 and is made available for internal research purposes only. You will need to obtain the relevant third party permissions for any use, including use in programmes, online etc.

This internal version of Genome, which includes all the magazine covers, images and articles as well as the programme listings from the Radio Times, is different to the version of BBC Genome that is available externally/to the public. It is only available inside the BBC network.

Your use of this version of Genome is covered by the BBC Acceptable Use of Information Systems Policy and these terms.
