In the early hours of a January morning in 1943, Flight Lieutenant Hillary, fighter pilot, and author of The Last Enemy, was killed when the Blenheim Trainer Plane he was piloting crashed and caught fire.
The programme has been arranged by adapting The Last Enemy, by selecting various passages from his letters, and by interviewing many of his friends. Also included is an interview given to J. Warren McAlpine , of the BBC North American Service, by Richard Hillary shortly after he was shot down during the Battle of Britain.
