The other week at Ijmuiden in Holland another large experimental furnace was brought into operation by the International Flame Research Committee. Seven countries are taking part in the research, the object of which is to improve all kinds of furnaces used in industry. Professor Saunders describes how this unusual venture was started and some of the benefits of such international co-operation.
