The National Institute for the Deaf has been in existence since 1911 It coordinates all current work for the deaf, encourages new work, and unites all those working for the deaf and partially deaf. It maintains an information service in daily use on a wide range of subjects in connection with deafness; it also runs a reference and lending library, and a technical research laboratory. Accommodation is provided for meetings of many other organisations working among the deaf, as well as for use as club rooms for large groups of hard-of-hearing people. Its residential Homes and Hostel provide happy, comfortable surroundings for those in need of special care and attention.
