When Giles and Peterkin set out with Margaret and her little red bundle of possessions they thought that they were beginning just a small adventure. But as the train gathered speed Giles had the horrible thought that perhaps this was not the local train but an express.

Talk by theRev. C. H. E. Smyth
Canon of Westminster
The Chuich of South India was formed in 1947 when-after nearly half a century-Anglicans, Congregationalists, Methodists, and Presbyterians united to make one Church. But all the problems in South India were not yet overcome: more difficult were the relations with the still divided Churches in Britain who had missions in South India. The Church of England in particular had to decide what its attitude was to be to ministers, even ex-Anglican ministers, who operated in a Church where many of their fellow ministers and presbyters were not episcopally ordained.
Canon Smyth describes the process of discussion of this last issue from the Lambeth Conference in 1948 and the meeting of Convocation in 1950 to the proposed discussions this year.
