David and Jeremy manage to elude Bull Jackson, the Bow Street Runner, who has been sent from London to arrest Jeremy. They are finally forced to take refuge in the theatre where they are befriended by Horatio Rumble, manager of a company of strolling players, and his daughter Kitty. David and Jeremy have disguised themselves as 'extras' in the play which is being performed, when they meet Jackson face to face.
