Second Lesson: Romans 2, vv. 1-16 Nunc dimittis (Darke in F) Creed: Suffrages; Collects
Anthem: 0 where shall wisdom be found? (Boyce)
0 where shall wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding? Man knoweth not the price thereof; neither is it found in the land of the living. The depth saith. It is not in me; and the sea saith. It is not with me. It cannot be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for the price thereof. No mention shall be made of coral, or of pearls, for the price of wisdom is above rubies. Whence then cometh wisdom? and where is the place of understanding? Seeing it is hid frqm the eyes of all living. God understandeth the way thereof, and he knoweth the place thereof. For he lookcth to the ends of the earth, and seeth under the whole heaven; To make the weight for the winds; and he weigheth the waters by measure. When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder; Then did he see it, and declare it; he prepared it, yea, and searched it out. And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding. Prayers

Introduction and Variations on an Original Theme, Op. 160 played by Richard Adeney (flute) and Kyla Greenbaum (piano)
Schubert wrote variations on four of his own songs. Those on ' Death and the Maiden ' and ' The Trout ' he incorporated into two of his finest compositions, the quartet and quintet that are known by those titles; this set, based on the song ' Withered Flowers,' is more in the nature of a show-piece, like the set on ' Sei mir gegriisst,' which forms the slow movement of the Fantasy for violin and piano. It dates from 1824; the song is from ' The Fair Maid of the Mill' cycle, written in the previous year. D.C.

About this project

This site contains the BBC listings information which the BBC printed in Radio Times between 1923 and 2009. You can search the site for BBC programmes, people, dates and Radio Times editions.

We hope it helps you find information about that long forgotten BBC programme, research a particular person or browse your own involvement with the BBC.

Through the listings, you will also be able to use the Genome search function to find thousands of radio and TV programmes that are already available to view or listen to on the BBC website.

There are more than 5 million programme listings in Genome. This is a historical record of the planned output and the BBC services of any given time. It should be viewed in this context and with the understanding that it reflects the attitudes and standards of its time - not those of today.

Welcome to BBC Genome

Genome is a digitised version of the Radio Times from 1923 to 2009 and is made available for internal research purposes only. You will need to obtain the relevant third party permissions for any use, including use in programmes, online etc.

This internal version of Genome, which includes all the magazine covers, images and articles as well as the programme listings from the Radio Times, is different to the version of BBC Genome that is available externally/to the public. It is only available inside the BBC network.

Your use of this version of Genome is covered by the BBC Acceptable Use of Information Systems Policy and these terms.
