New Year's Day Concert

We have produced a Style Guide to help editors follow a standard format when editing a listing. If you are unsure how best to edit this programme please take a moment to read it.
One of the great New Year traditions, this glittering annual event comes live from Vienna. Richard
Baker introduces the second half of this morning's concert (the whole of it can be heard on Radio 3). Lorin Maazel conducts the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in a programme of popular waltzes, polkas and marches by members of the Strauss family; also included is the Shonbrunner waltz by Josef Lanner.
The concert takes place in the appropriately named
Golden Hall of the famous Musikverein and ends, as always, with the Blue Danube waltz and the Radetzky march. Some of the musical items are interpreted by members of the Vienna State
Opera Ballet.

New Year's Day Concert

BBC Two England, 1 January 1994 11.15

About this project

This site contains the BBC listings information which the BBC printed in Radio Times between 1923 and 2009. You can search the site for BBC programmes, people, dates and Radio Times editions.

We hope it helps you find information about that long forgotten BBC programme, research a particular person or browse your own involvement with the BBC.

Through the listings, you will also be able to use the Genome search function to find thousands of radio and TV programmes that are already available to view or listen to on the BBC website.

There are more than 5 million programme listings in Genome. This is a historical record of the planned output and the BBC services of any given time. It should be viewed in this context and with the understanding that it reflects the attitudes and standards of its time - not those of today.
