Gerald of Wales: Journey through Wales (1188) Nicholas Crane follows in the tracks of a man who embarked on a seven week trip to the remotest parts of Wales, recruiting men for a great crusade against the armies of Saladin in the Holy Land. Gerald of Wales was also to become the first natural historian of Wales as his journal described the mountain passes and raging rivers his party endured on their travels.
