LIVIO MANNUCCI (Violoncello)
THE B.B.C. ORCHESTRA
(Section D)
(Led by LAURANCE TURNER )
Conducted by JULIUS HARHISOX
JULIUS HARRISON is a Worcestershire man, as is Sir Edward Elgar-indeed , the Wast country is more fertile in musicians than it is usually given credit for-and studied under Sir Granville Bantock. Almost as a student he gained the first award in a competition for sotting, as a cantata, a text of Gerald Cumber land's called ' Cleopatra.' His next success was with Sir Thomas Beecham , whoso habit it then was to collect clever young conductors such as Harrison and Eugene Goossens to adorn his opera seasons. From that time, Harrison has followed the career of a conductor, having at one time or another directed all the principal orchestras in the kingdom. He is now in charge of the Hastings Municipal Orchestra. His compositions are more distinguished than numerous. One popular work is his orchestral suite, ' Worcestershire Pieces,' first produced twelve years ago.
