Bernard Tavernier 's new film Round Midnight tells the story of the black American jazz musicians who went to Paris in the late 1950s, and the relationship that develops between an ageing saxophonist and his young
French admirer. The central character, played by Dexter Gordon , is inspired by the figures of Bud Powell and Lester Young , and the music for the film is arranged and composed by Herbie Hancock. Theatre: High Society, the Cole Porter musical made popular by the cinema version of 1956, this week receives its world stage premiere at the Leicester Haymarket Theatre. The production is directed by Richard Eyre , who was responsible for the National Theatre revival of Guys and Dolls, and stars Natasha Richardson , Stephen Rea and Trevor Eve. Assistant producers
