The Art of Travel

on BBC Radio 4 FM

Six travellers reflect on a journey in conversation with Annette Kobak.
1: At the age of 19, Laurie Lee left his Gloucestershire village to seek his fortune in the big world. Equipped with only a violin and notebook, he walked across Spain, falling in love with the land and its people. But as 1936 dawned, he found himself caught in a country in the grip of a bitter civil war. So began a journey into the darker side of Spain.
