Many hundreds of photographs, brought alive by a still-pictures-in-motion technique, recapture Hannibal, Missouri, as it was when he was born there; the fantastic magnificence of the Mississippi river boats; the rough vitality of a gold-rush town; San Francisco in the seven-ties; turn-of-the-century New York: the exuberance of the America he knew and loved so well.
