The Boys from Baghdad High - This World

We have produced a Style Guide to help editors follow a standard format when editing a listing. If you are unsure how best to edit this programme please take a moment to read it.
Compelling documentary chronicling the friendship of four Iraqi classmates in Baghdad of Kurdish, Christian, Shia and mixed Sunni-Shia backgrounds.

In a city torn apart by sectarian violence, the boys film their own experiences during one academic year, capturing how the dangers that exist all around them affect their studies, normal teenage distractions - such as texting girlfriends, playing computer games and reciting rap songs - and the crucial decisions on whether to stay in the city or leave, which will ultimately impact on all their futures.

Documentary: The Boys from Baghdad High - This World 9.00pm BBC2
We could do with more films like this, exploring the everyday lives of Iraqis. The trouble is, one side-effect of war is boredom - blackouts, curfews, nothing to do, not safe to socialise. That at least, seems to be the experience of the four Baghdad teenagers who filmed themselves during their last year at school for this revealing documentary.
The ordinariness of their relatively peaceful lives helps emphasise the fact that they are hedged around with danger. Gunfire can often be heard. Chinook helicopters fly overhead. But the four friends are more intent on homework, exams, music, football, girlfriends - regular teen stuff. Only occasionally do they show their despair at the crumbling society around them. About this project

This site contains the BBC listings information which the BBC printed in Radio Times between 1923 and 2009. You can search the site for BBC programmes, people, dates and Radio Times editions.

We hope it helps you find information about that long forgotten BBC programme, research a particular person or browse your own involvement with the BBC.

Through the listings, you will also be able to use the Genome search function to find thousands of radio and TV programmes that are already available to view or listen to on the BBC website.

There are more than 5 million programme listings in Genome. This is a historical record of the planned output and the BBC services of any given time. It should be viewed in this context and with the understanding that it reflects the attitudes and standards of its time - not those of today.

To read scans of the Radio Times magazines from the 1920s, 30s, 40s and 50s, you can navigate by issue.
