Treasures of Imperial China

on BBC Two England

Behind the walls of the Forbidden City in Peking lie the Hall of Complete Harmony, the Hall of Golden Bells, the Palace of Earthly Tranquillity - more than 10,000 rooms in an Imperial Palace that was first built by the Ming Emperors of the 15th century. This selection of films from China shows some of the exquisite craftsmanship of the decorations and objects that were part of the Emperors' daily lives and also reveals them as patrons of an astonishing religious art - 51,000 Buddhas carved in the living rock.
