The novel by Mrs. Gaskell adapted as a serial in six parts by Mabel Constanduros
PART 2
Produced by Bertram Parnaby in the BBC's North of England studios
Doctor Gibson is the local doctor at Hollingford, and a widower. His daughter Molly has recently been on a visit to Hamley Hall, where she makes an agreeable companion to Squire Hamley's ailing wife. While she is away Doctor Gibson becomes engaged to Mrs. Clare Kirkpatrick, one-time governess to Lord and Lady Cumnor's family, and now a widow. Molly hears the news with alarm, and in spite of kindly sympathy from the Hamley's younger son, Roger, she is obviously distressed as the time comes for her to be introduced to her future step mother.
