Steel Strike

on BBC Two England

In a week when trades unionists are meeting to decide how to fight moves to curb their power, tonight's film tells the story of the strike that did much to reinforce Government opinion that ' something had to be done about the unions '. Last winter's steel strike, the longest national stoppage since the 30s, occupied television news programmes almost daily with ugly scenes on the picket lines, demonstrations against Ministers and a series of fruitless talks. From that material, and from other special TV news coverage, Gordon Carr has constructed television's first comprehensive' picture of a strike as it unfolds in front of the cameras.
