A Holst Evening

Synopsis

We have produced a Style Guide to help editors follow a standard format when editing a listing. If you are unsure how best to edit this programme please take a moment to read it.
An interplanetary journey around the life and music of Gustav Hoist, guided by Piers Burton-Page.
Contributors include composer Colin Matthews , conductors Hilary Davan Wetton and Vernon Handley, Holst biographer Michael Short and Holst scholars Richard Greene, Raymond Head and Lowinger Maddison, friends, colleagues and pupils of the composer, and his daughter Imogen. Marking out the route from his birthplace in Cheltenham via India, Algeria, Hammersmith and Thaxted to Betelgeuse are Holst's own recordings of all seven Planets and a galaxy of his other music, from a masque for St Paul 's Girls' School to his visionary masterpiece Egdon Heath.

About this project

This site contains the BBC listings information which the BBC printed in Radio Times between 1923 and 2009. You can search the site for BBC programmes, people, dates and Radio Times editions.

We hope it helps you find information about that long forgotten BBC programme, research a particular person or browse your own involvement with the BBC.

Through the listings, you will also be able to use the Genome search function to find thousands of radio and TV programmes that are already available to view or listen to on the BBC website.

There are more than 5 million programme listings in Genome. This is a historical record of the planned output and the BBC services of any given time. It should be viewed in this context and with the understanding that it reflects the attitudes and standards of its time - not those of today.
