Mr. A. ROSE
MR. ARCHIBALD ROSE , who was formerly British Consul at a town on the Burma-China frontier, knows China and understands the Oriental point of view about as intimately ns any European can. He was present at the siege of Peking in 1900, and was awarded the China Medal and Clasp fur his part in the defence of the Legation quarter. Ho retired from the Consular Service ten vears ago, but last year saw him back in the East for a conference organized by the Institute of Pacific Relations in Shanghai.
