: A Christmas Carol

A cartoon version of CHARLES DICKENS 'S Story of Ebenezer Scrooge, in the style of the original illustrations by ' Phiz.'
Every word in this production of the most seasonal of Christmas stories is as written. Nearly a year in the making, involving some 30,000 drawings, the animators based their sketches on 19th-century London after months of research. Such care was taken to achieve the maximum authenticity that even the bells used were actually ringing in Dickens's days.

A film by HUGH BURNETT
The tourists and pilgrims scatter across the countryside around Jerusalem in search of the shrines of three of the world's great religions - Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
This film goes with them - into the Tomb of Christ, to the site of Calvary, and the Ascension, to the Dome of the Rock where Mohammed left his footprint in the stone and the Tomb of Abraham where Jews and Arabs worship side by side.

Impressions of Garland
A profile of Judy Garland, one of the world's greatest entertainers, who died three years ago in London at the age of 47. This film captures the essence of Judy Garland as a person and performer - with excerpts from her films, including Wizard of Oz, Meet Me in St Louis, and A Star is Born.
Taking part are her friends and those who worked with her, including actors Dirk Bogarde and Mickey Rooney, and her daughter, actress and singer Liza Minnelli.
'The only role that she never really had to play was being a mother, because that came totally naturally to her. She was millions of different things, millions of commodities: a joy to the press, a joy to people who hang on depression and everything. Because, you know, she was an outlet for them and she knew it ...
Also she was hysterical to be around: witty, funny, full of love, full of need and full of life' (Liza Minnelli)

: A Ghost Story for Christmas: A Warning to the Curious

A man comes to a Norfolk seaside town in winter. He is looking for an ancient crown he thinks is buried nearby. A local legend foretells disasters if anyone moves the crown. Indeed, some years before a visiting archaeologist was killed but no murderer was found. No one knows where the crown is buried, or if they do they won't say. The searcher persists and succeeds - but he finds a great deal more than the crown.

About this project

This site contains the BBC listings information which the BBC printed in Radio Times between 1923 and 2009. You can search the site for BBC programmes, people, dates and Radio Times editions.

We hope it helps you find information about that long forgotten BBC programme, research a particular person or browse your own involvement with the BBC.

Through the listings, you will also be able to use the Genome search function to find thousands of radio and TV programmes that are already available to view or listen to on the BBC website.

There are more than 5 million programme listings in Genome. This is a historical record of the planned output and the BBC services of any given time. It should be viewed in this context and with the understanding that it reflects the attitudes and standards of its time - not those of today.

Welcome to BBC Genome

Genome is a digitised version of the Radio Times from 1923 to 2009 and is made available for internal research purposes only. You will need to obtain the relevant third party permissions for any use, including use in programmes, online etc.

This internal version of Genome, which includes all the magazine covers, images and articles as well as the programme listings from the Radio Times, is different to the version of BBC Genome that is available externally/to the public. It is only available inside the BBC network.

Your use of this version of Genome is covered by the BBC Acceptable Use of Information Systems Policy and these terms.
